After installing of the newest version v56.0 I can't run the browser from within the portableapps menu.
You are here
Start impossible
After installing Firefox separately on my Desktop I have detect, that this Installation works fine.
After upgrade Firefox Portable Edition: it can not been started anymore and gives the message:
"firefox.exe could not be found"
"try to install the application again"
====== CORRECTION : THIS IS NOT RIGHT =============================================
|| But re-installing is impossible because Portable Apps sees a correct installed FireFox.
||
|| The only way is to deinstall then FireFox and install it as a new program. Then it runs without any problem.

It's the 2the time in a few weeks, I get this problem.
So the Portable Apps upgrade system for FireFox is broken.
Now the problem is that when deinstalling FireFox, all the personal settings and the profile are lost...
Re-installing is of course possible.
But it's a bit misleading, because in the list 'New programms to download', under internet, the broken FireFox is checked with a dash as 'Download' and 'Installed'.
So one could think re-installation is impossible. But that is wrong.
Re-installing is of course possible.
I did it even twice, as a test, with Mozilla FireFox..
So, sorry for the re-install wrong information.
BTW, my anti-virus Trend Micro (enterprise version) does not delete things on my portable apps platform.
Neither do I have a disk error that only deletes the firefox.exe
firefox.exe is only deleted after upgrading via the Portable Apps platform.
I'm not understanding: "But re-installing is impossible because Portable Apps sees a correct installed FireFox." Reinstalling Firefox Portable over itself is how upgrades are done. With the millions of users we have, someone is doing this every hour of every day without issue.
The only time the launcher will say "firefox.exe not found" is when (1) your antivirus deletes it which I've never seen happen, (2) your drive has corruption which is often the reason.
After deinstallation via the Portableapps menu, I then looked into the folder "FirefoxPortable". Here I found the file "FirefoxPortable.exe" and the folder "App". However, I recognized that the icon to the left of the file name "FirefoxPortable.exe" was changed. My attempt to delete both this file and the folder failed. Instead, I received the following error message:
You must obtain the necessary permissions from the "administrator of the computer" to make changes to this file.
That's a permissions issue with the underlying file structure. Neither the platform, the installer, nor the app changes these, so something else did. You'll need to ensure your current account has the appropriate permissions for the entire file structure you're running apps from.
I think also about this fact, that my account has not the appropriate permissions. After I have done a few minutes ago, however, a Windows update, which was offered to me automatically, now works again the browser Firefox. Some miracles seem to have taken place
I'm guessing that the Windows update you installed required you to restart the PC as it is very unlikely that the update itself fixed the issue. It's far more likely that some program (potentially even Windows itself) had locked the file and the lock was removed when the computer rebooted.
