I have made a portable version of Eraser, which is a file shredder, Eraser is opensource, enjoy!

This launcher works a whole lot better than the 1st crappy launcher
Update: Since July 16, 2007 at 1:57 AM this project is officially forsaken in favor of John's.
Of errors when i extracted it.
Tried it again...
Same errors.
?
new link
No self extractor now...?, but that's fine, it seems to be working good so far. And sorry, I would have written out the errors, but it wouldn't let me copy the text it was like...

link for a file with no errors
It worked (even the extraction) but it left tons of registry entries.

Which keys and how many keys total?

TRY IT
..the attraction to Eraser because of the open source aspect of it.
I use Cyber Shredder from CyLog. Much simpler, much smaller, much quicker. One executible, no traces in the registry.

You don't need the uninstaller in your portable app

Don't understand your reply. I have no uninstaller in my cyber shredder.

But John does it too, and besides I am lazy!
But does the launcher work for you?
For ME.
how well does it work for you?
What you're asking...
Ouu, I have recieved a new e-mail from you.
So anyways, it opens very quickly with no problems.
does the copy of Eraser it is launching actually work?
I haven't really figured it out yet. I tried to erase something, and it said there was nothing to erase.
Is there a way to make a portable version of Eraser that leaves the system's registry clean, like most of the standard suite's applications?
Cheers,
Epimetreus
I've used the desktop version for a while now in my role as a government IT employee to clean systems according to DOD standards... So when I saw this post I thought I'd try it out. Well here goes, hope this helps the dev process...
Eraser software is not installed locally.
PC: Win2K Pro SP4, Domain login with limited permissions (exact profile setting unknown)
USB: A-Data 8GB
It left a registry setting to launch the app on restart, which is the biggest issue I have with it.
The rest of the registry settings that I found...

I am a beginner at my language, second not all the keys in the Registry can be eradicated w/o Admin privs, 3rd I am working in the launcher 4th this is a Beta Forums, Beta means that the code is not quite ready for the general public, aka the End-Users people which means is just a user, not developer!

As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp.
when some one volunteers to test something, then posts what they find, you probably shouldn't criticize them for doing what you asked... You might make the tester, who knows that the application is a 'beta', think that they should'a kept their results to themselves and not assist with the development process.

that's right... and i think the reaction of espreon is a bit sad...
is prefetch data and cannot be eradicated unfourntaetly. So that one has to be removed manually.
As for you muskrat, I am sorry if my criticism has done any harm to your feelings.

I made my own launcher for this that covers all reg key bases. I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, just saying it can be done. Some of the keys mentioned here though (startup and some menu integration) need to be turned off from the program options. You obviously don't want to tell it to startup with windows or integrate into the context menus. Once disabled, those reg entries go away.
IMO though, from a portable perspective using eraserl.exe is much better. The eraser GUI is clunky for just needing to erase a few files. I've got some batch files which I use with eraserl to take care of business. You can also use eraserl to wipe the recycle bin, it's all in the commandline options.
