File created by Portable App's software won't open on flash drive

I first created some Scribus files on my desktop and put them on a jump drive. I figured that the Scribus program would also have to be present for those files to open. So I downloaded the portable version of Scribus on the the flash drive. The files would not open.

I tried to do a test document in the portable scribus program to see if the files had to be created within that program to open it. I saved the document and then found it on the flash drive and tried to open it. It would not let me open it through the Scribus program. Desperately need help. These files are for a relative who needs to take the flash drive to work in the morning and print them out from a work computer that does not have the Scribus program on it.

Would not open?

What do you mean by "would not open"?
Are you trying to double-click on the .SLA file to open it, or open it in Scribus using the File: Open menu option?
If your relative is just needing to print them out, rather than edit them, I recommend exporting to PDF, and providing them with the PDF, rather than trying to have them open Scribus themselves.

Here's a sample .SLA file I just quickly made up, the resulting PDF, and the "collect for output" results for the .sla file.

Unmodified

Also note that Scribus Portable includes an unmodified copy of Scribus.
All we do is ensure settings files are updated to point to the right location each time it's run, and that the settings files are available when run from a new location.

SLA files

If you save something from Scribus as an SLA file, you can then open Scribus Portable and then open the file for further use. If you exported the file to another format like EPS or PDF, you might be able to re-open it if you install Ghostscript Portable as well. It is *highly* recommended you use SLA except for finalizing the file to EPS or PDF for distribution to a printer.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
