Hi,
A suggestion for the forums:
It could be a limitation of Drupal, in conjunction with hardware resource issues, but these forums are not very easy to navigate and lack a lot of navigation features I find in other forums (eg vBulletin-based ones).
As the site grows and more postings occur, these navigation and organisational features become more important. Simple things like:
- Viewing new posts
- Mark posts as "read"
- Adding the forum name to the Recent Posts list
- Options to view topics in either threaded or list mode.
- Also, while the look&feel of the forums is consistent with the whole site, it does appear a bit lifeless and staid. I don't think the forums need avatars, but easier ways to format texts / enter smilies would spruce it up a bit!
I also think the Development forum needs to be split-up into "Official" (portableapps.com supported) and "Non-Official" (community contributions).
This is to try and help situations where the same app is being worked on by JTH and someone else (ie SumatraPDF). I gleaned from other posts that this is something that will happen eventually, but really needs to happen soon as this site becomes more popular.
Cheers,
Some of your ideas, but personally, I LOVE these forums, basicially the most organised and easy-to-use/naviagate forums I've ever seen.
good ideas.
I dont like the way new (unread) posts cant be viewed directly if the node is longer than 1 page.
But I like the icons: 8) }:)
