Will there ever be a FAQ page?

Yes, I am a newbie, but some thoughts I had --

A FAQ page could help diminish *some* of the repeated and repeated and repeated queries. ( I know, not all repeats, that is just how us newbies are --- weren't you like that once?)

Also, something I saw at another software's wiki that might be useful here --
a list of requested features, users add to the list and/or vote for additional features.

How about a list of applications that have already been requested that CANNOT be adapted for PortableApps?

How about a list of applications that are already "in the pipeline"?

My apologies if I stepped on any toes, please, yell but don't hit!
(and I am willing to help compile lists if that would be useful)

Something like this has already been done

I see a page that gives general "getting-started" info

on setting up and using the menu and suite.
And it is VERY useful.

Is this the link you intended to post?
Or maybe I'm just not understanding what you mean?

I was thinking of FAQ that might include, for example:

(my own problem) the 120 dpi display issue
"un-displaying" extra exe files when you add a non-PAM app
re-naming and setting a new icon to the usb device
auto-running usb devices (how it does or doesn't work)

these are just a few repetitive questions I've seen in various threads while browsing this forum.

Just a suggestion, anyway.....

Yes

This is the link I intended to post.
I hope, the page I posted is just a beginning and your suggestions are added in the future.

@ Ryan --- sorry for being vague

I was on my way out the door and in a hurry.
I mean your FAQ page seems to have no list on it.
Of course, my eyes are old, and dark grey text on black ground may be hiding a link from me.

Maybe I've finally gone totally senile!

Oh yeh

That's for 2 reasons:

  1. I was gonna move it to my new projects site (which you might be seeing soon)
  2. I disabled the plugin that works it.

I already did.

I already did. Unfortunately, however, the host I used then cut off my access without notice and it was the only copy I had of the document. If anyone happens to have a copy, I would happily work on it and revive the aforementioned thread.

I am blocked from file-hosting sites, should I post the entire text here?

So any progress in the FAQ?

So any progress in the FAQ? I bring this topic back up because i was actually thinking about this idea and about to create a new topic about it but then i got this wonderful idea to use SEARCH Blum
Anyway: any progress on this? A FAQ is something we really need around here. It would spare us a lot of effort. I'm always willing to help just give me a PM.

Just the FAQs ma'am...

If you guys re-do a FAQ, I'd suggest putting it in a Wiki somewhere so other peeps can edit it or add to it. Invitation only perhaps?

It's open sign-up and editing, but I can restrict pages to certain users if needed.

FAQ

Can you create some kind of FAQ page inside, free for editing by unregistered users? It is for the "Dumb Threads" Node (link). It is a good try. Maybe the FAQs could be applied to the forum. And you're a moderator. Go check the link above and give your opinion, please.

unregistered?

I can see that it might be valuable to have a way for unregistered folks to submit suggestions or questions anonymously, but I also support having registered users be the ones who can actually edit things visible to the public. You need a bit of accountability.

In this case...

In this case we are talking of an always on development page, that will not interest the "audience". I am not asking to make all of the wiki available, but just that page in specific.

Beyond that you're right.

Sorry Ryan for not adding more to that PA developer Wiki lately. I'm very un-inspired PortableApps-wise right now. (I recently built a new quad-core with 8800GT gaming rig along with Crysis, CoD3 and The Orange Box plus I bought a 50" plasma TV, PS3, HD-DVD player, and a got a Netflix subscription..I'm a little busy elsewhere ;)).

No problems.

I don't really care either way, I just set it up if we need it. Smile

Sounds like a good rig. Biggrin
