FF Portable 52 ESR lost search engines

I switched from XP to win7 and everything was fine till I moved my search box into tab menu to make all other icons fit in the navigation bar. Not sure if it was the cause, but I lost all search engines and any ability to add or reset to default (greyed out). Someone suggested this fix in about:config browser.search.showOneOffButtons, but the line is not there. I tried placing the search box back into navigation bar - no icons; tried in FF61 on another thumb drive - works in both places. Safe mode restored all search engine icons as well.

I spent hours setting the toolbars just the way I want them, used Classic Theme Restorer and added add-ons I need so I'd rather not update or reset the toolbar to avoid going through all the hassle again. Any simple fix? Thanks
