Wow, not sure what happened here, but when I plugged my USB into another computer, I noticed I lost all my extensions in both Iron and Chromium. Yes, I know Chromium isn't supported here but Iron is and the same thing happened in both.
Bookmarks and password are still there but the extensions I installed have disappeared.
I noticed Opera and Firefox stayed intact, though. What's going on there?
Does it not save the profile locally on the USB?
Or did some fluke happen?
Your question has been asked and answered endlessly.
Please read the 'App Notes' Section on this Page: https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/google_chrome_portable
Yeah, but I'm not using Chrome. Just these forks of it.
And I'm not sure what the point is of having these apps on the PortableApps platform if you can't transport (portable aspect of it) and plug it into different machines if your settings disappear each time. Doesn't that defeat the purpose?
If that's the case, then this should be solved since it sounds like a big problem.
The Google Chrome team has purposely designed Chrome/Blink this way. All browsers based on it will be similarly affected. You must log in to take your settings with you. If you want a fully portable browser, use Firefox.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I hear what you're saying, but I think it's stupid to log into an email account just to use a browser.
I guess it's not portableapps fault, but I thought the forks were different. This is just another lousy way google uses to track your every move, even though you're using forks (SRWare and Chromium) of it that is supposed to guarantee privacy away from google.
I'm surprised portableapps can't come up with a way of blocking this behavior from happening. After all, it's on your platform.
Feel free to contibute and add a solution for that problem. Much of what you find here at PortableApps.com is based on volunteers work mainly in their spare time. Any addidtional help is welcome. In the last years devs came and left and much of the work sticks to John as someone has keep up with updates.
Btw. I don't think, there is an easy fix for your problem as it's bulit into the core structure of Chromium.
Sir, if I knew the answers, I wouldn't be here to ask. I just think plugging your poratableapps into another computer and having your profiles disappear is bizarre, unacceptable behavior. Especially when Opera is also a Blink based browser and doesn't exhibit this phenomena.
I appreciate your time, though. Too bad, since it looks like I will be deleting Chromium and Iron from my portableapps USB stick.
