Well.

That's a nice question. Care to expand?

What stick?
How often do you use it?
How old is it?
The software?-What software?
How quickly did it go dead after "installation"?
How did it go "dead"?
How do you know it's dead?

it is a pny 512 thumb (usb) stick,
i have used it on a daily basis for nearly a year,
the software was the portable apps system.

Whenever i plug it in it does not pop up with the auto launch, and going through My Computer all i get is an error message.

The stick has not worked since i pulled it out after installing the software

I have tried it in two different computers

here is a link to a screen shot of what it gives me

Well.

Sometimes the auto launch does not come up after a while. I don't know why. But, then there's the "Please insert a disc into drive F:"

I've seen that. And then I realize I've selected a drive without a disc in it...:S.

Drive issue

Is it possible there's a logical error on your drive? This can happen if you eject unsafely or sometimes when drives overheat. Did you try it in another PC? If you have your data backed up, have you tried reformatting it?

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

To reformat...

Right click the drive.

Simply select "Format..." and then select the type. Maybe stick with Fat32. And select start.

Read / Write

Is it possible that the drive is simply worn out (flash drives only have a limited amount of reads/ writes)...?

Try on another OS

Do you have access to a computer with Linux or Mac? Try formating it in one of those. I once had issues with my flash drive and it worked for me.
