Firefox Portable rev. 63 OR Update to 63 disables Firefox Portable

Hi all,

This is the 3rd time an update has wrecked my Firefox portable. After updating to version 63, it will no longer boot. Every time I try to start Firefox, I get "...firefox.exe - Application Error - The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application." I am using Windows 10.

So, I downloaded a new Firefox Portable install package - version 63 - installed it in a new directory - and the brand new version is also not working, same error.

What's going on? This also happened with Version 57. This is really making life hard for me, as I must now switch to another default browser (I hate Edge and Chrome), and try to figure out how to get my bookmarks. Please help. Also, for those who want to sympathize, please start your own thread; I think that will gather helpful attention from the creators of this version more than clogging this thread with a bunch of "Me Too's" and all the things you've tried. Thanks in advance for a solution.

Mark

Try Doing Some Research for Possible Solutions

I'm running Firefox Portable 63.0 on Win7 and no problems at all. Maybe it is the Microsoft Malware Suite that you are trying to run as an operating system - aka Windows 10. Try googling for a solution there are lots of hits on this query: https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=ovTWW_K7EOyOrgTgvbv4Dg&q=fire...

Personally I found this interesting: https://neosmart.net/wiki/0xc0000022/ Lots of stuff on permissions, missing or corrupt dlls, interfering virus-scanners, etc.

An alternative to doing your own research and looking for a fix would be just to 'install' an older version that you knew to be working in the past, use that, and wait till the next new version is released and try that.

Good luck. And thanks in advance for your thanks.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Fixing Firefox after update...

Thanks, Abraxian. I did run across many of the same suggestions; there were some new ones, so thank you for that. Unfortunately, I just don't have hours on end to put into this kind of troubleshooting. So yes, as with revision 57, I'll install the previous version, see if I can import my bookmarks, and wait for the next version to come out.

Or, just upgrade to Chrome, with the belief that Google will be cataloging my every move on the internet, for sale to any and all marketeers...

Firefox Portable 63.0.1 Released - Try That

Hi Mark,

Firefox Portable 63.0.1 was released a couple of days ago. Can be got here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C... (Frequently the release at that webpage occurs a couple of days before the latest version is released on PortableApps main site.)

Try if that version runs okay. If it doesn't then post back here as I have a suggestion that will allow you to quickly check if the problem is a 'permissions' issue.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Not official

Although we may have uploaded the build to SourceForge prior to making an official release announcement, we recommend avoiding updating until we announce a release.

Files uploaded prior to release may be taken down for unforeseen reasons.

Won't Recommend SourceForge Download Again

Okay, Gord. I won't make such a recommendation in future. (That said I download from SourceForge most of the time and have never encountered an issue because I have done so. Ah, well.)

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Okay here

For what it's worth, I have Windows 10, and I had no trouble with v.63 (or v.60.0.1 which I just upgraded to a couple minutes ago, or with v.57). There is something particular about your system that is interfering. I hope you find a solution - leaving Firefox for another browser will not guarantee no bugs or system compatibility issues (the grass might LOOK greener on the other side of the fence, but...).

Check your Windows firewall...

Could be your Windows firewall. Check your Windows firewall and make sure it does not block the Firefox 63's exe file.
