Rename The Folder

You can rename a folder to disable the updater for that app. So, say you wanted to use an old version of 2048 Portable. You'd rename X:\PortableApps\2048Portable to X:\PortableApps\2048PortableOld and the updater will ignore it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Not Clear What You're Saying, John

Are you saying that appending "Old" to a folder name causes the updater to ignore that folder? In effect, the "Old" is acting as a switch to the updater?

If that is what you are saying would "X:\PortableApps\2048Portable Old" (there is a space in there) also work? I mean does the updater look for what are the last three characters in a folder name?

What are the rules for the updater-switch in a folder name?

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Much simpler

In general, the updater only picks up the apps with unaltered folder names. The addition of "old" was just an example to demonstrate a useful way to memorize, which foldes have been altered.
You can choose what you like and what fits your needs best. Only a few apps may collide in special cases - like adding "Test" to FirefoxPortable, which would result in naming it like the beta channel...

So the Updater Has a Built-in List of Apps it Can/Will Update

Thanks very much for the response. I think I've got it now.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

From a previous post that I can't find

But alongside the PortableApps and Documents folders in the root of my drive, I created folders names "Legacy", "Other" and "Unofficial". Legacy contains older apps from here that may not be maintained, example pre-60 Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey. Other contains non .paf but zipped format type apps like ImgBurn and the HP usb format app. Unofficial contains .paf formatted, but not supported here, apps, like Waterfox. JTH mentioned this in another thread and it seemed like an ideal way to keep your apps sorted, although the menu doesn't seem to see them.

Try Another Launcher for Your Non-PortableApps Apps

Sounds like you have a fair number of non-PortableApps apps (I do too). I'd recommended using another portable apps menu type program for managing launching them. Quick Cliq is the one I use and it is pretty good and actually very powerful once you learn how to use it to the full. Give it a try, put some time into learning how to use it, and I don't think you would be disappointed.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

There's

pstart and geek menu, though I don't think they are maintained, if you'd like to check those out. Both were mentioned here in the forum some years back. I tried them, both seemed nice, but I'm old school, I have to have the PA.c menu. Even have the smiley face that JTH offered as a menu pic.
