What is the point of developing a platform that can't be used?

What is the point of developing a "platform" that can't be used? Why waste our time with useless junk?
I was one of the many people stupid enough to waste my time downloading your useless platform and apps.
Every time I insert the usb stick in a new laptop, ALL my customizations are GONE - and I mean everything!
This happens whether I use Chrome, Firefox, Opera or any other browser. Nothing is retained.
I tried to download the apps to the cloud, but I can only use the Google Drive or Dropbox; I don't have any of these! I have Icloud and Outlook mail storage - but of course these can't be used by your lame app platform! So much for "cloud storage"
Do you honestly think anyone in his right mind would waste hours of his time re-installing and re-re-re-installing customized apps every time he wants to use a new computer?
The whole thing was supposed to be about PORTABILITY, eh?!!

Think...

Now, after you gave vent to your anger, wouldn't you think, that maybe there is a problem on your end that the many other users don't have? Without any doubt - what you describe is not the usual behaviour of the platform. If so, PortableApps would not be one of the most used portability platforms out there.
So please, calm down and provide some information if you are interested in a solution. Platform-/OS-Version, antivirus/firewall, detailed description of the fault, what is your standard procedure when you use the apps, what special setups do you eventually have like locked down company computers etc.

Sorry to burst your bubble my friend, but it's not about "venting anger"; rather it's about YOU, creating a platform that is USELESS!
Just to "enlighten" you:
- I use personal computers and not company-locked ones
- I use about 6 computers in 6 different locations (yes, I have more than one residence)
- these computers run MacOS Mojave, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 7 Ultimate
- I use the 16.0 platform downloaded from your site
- it's installed on a removable USB stick since I could NOT install it in the cloud, thanks to your extraordinary expertise in designing apps
- for the cloud it only offers Dropbox option, no Google drive or Icloud ( which are greyed-out)
- as soon as I connect the USB stick to a new laptop, all my customizations are GONE
-no, I don't use portable Chrome, I use portable Mozilla
So is it me venting my anger, or do you really have a problem?

Seriously Though...

To field some of your... concerns... the way you're telling the story, I'd honestly try another USB stick. Perhaps you purchased a USB stick of low quality?

Another way to state your claims would have just been to say your settings aren't carrying over for some reason, and go from there. Nobody is happy you are losing your stuff, and it's definitely not a common occurrence.

I'm with you on the Dropbox thing, but it's not like suggesting iCloud is any better. lol. I'd prefer a more privacy-forward method of storage like SpiderOak. The files are segmented, and each segment is encrypted with a separate key. I fully recommend checking it out. And they don't store your public AND private keys, as does Dropbox... which basically makes them you & a security hole. This is what I've been told.

The rest of the stuff was just very angry, and again your re-re-installing is related to your USB issues if I had to guess.

Useless app platform and intellectually challenged "help team"

Some time ago I brought to your "inestimable attention" the fact that as soon as I use my portable apps usb stick in another computer, all my customizations are gone.
You were UNABLE to offer any pertinent suggestion whatsoever, except for "hahaha the fact that you are angry made my day" and "change the usb stick"
I won't try to diagnose the psychiatric disorder of someone whose day is "made" by laughing at other users' problems - I'll levae that to the specialists. I can only say I pity him.
As for the suggestion that the usb stick is defective, I tried 3 (three) different usb sticks and the problem is still here.
No, I don't use Chrome, I use Mozilla.
So much for you GREAT APP PLATFORM!

Let's take a breath and start again.

A joke was made above which probably shouldn't have been made, but please recognize that we are a diverse bunch, and sometimes a jest in one person's mind/sensibilities can be read wrong by someone else, as has happened here.

Admittedly your original post was somewhat aggressive, and that does trigger some people to go on the defensive. I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just stating a fact.

That said - please let us take a breath, put all of that aside, and get onto your issue....

I will address your last point first, since that seems to be the original source of your problems.

The Platform can be installed to and run from practically any cloud storage, and I don't understand why you think it can't. I haven't run the installer myself in years so am just guessing here, but if you are talking about install location options presented in the installer - these are just some popular options that are suggested to users. You can still manually set the install location of the Platform to any other cloud storage you want it on.

Just be aware that if it is installed in cloud storage you do have to wait for all files to sync to the local machine before starting the Platform or any installed apps, and you can't run an app from multiple machines at once without some data loss too - it is a limitation of cloud storage. As long as you take those two points into consideration you will be fine.

If you still want to work out your platform issues when running from a USB stick, please just ask us, and talk to us instead of going on the attack. We are happy to help if you are willing to work with us.

The vast majority of us here are unpaid volunteers who do this in our spare time. We are not directly responsible for the Platform and are just here trying to help.
