Veracrypt 1.23 Hotfix 2 doesn't work

Dear All,

I have the same issue (but with the above version) PClough described on July 31, 2018:
""After updating and launching the new version, it refuses to load and tells me that an old version of the Veracrypt driver is already running (which was not the case according to task manager). "" At my side, it says an "incompatible" driver is already running.

A second pop-up window claims this might be a windows issue and rebooting might help. I does not!

In contrast to PClough, there was never an installed version on this machine, only a portable one.
Wise Uninstaller does not show any Veracrypt elements accidentally installed on this machine.

System is a MS Surface Pro 4 Win10 x64 Build 10.0.17134 Intel i5-6300U 8 GB Ram

There is nothing related to Veracrypt in Autostart and Registry only shows an entry for Version 1.22 under
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache (whatever that means).
Taskmanager shows nothing as well.

Path is simply under \Downloads\PA\PortableApps\VeraCryptPortable while "PA" is the subdir which contains the PortableApps.com Platform.

Like PClough going back to previous version (1.22) solves the issue.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Thanks for your help in advance,
sosolala

I had the same issue with

I had the same issue with Veracrypt. After I upgraded to 1.23 Hotfix 2 it wouldn't load, complaining about an old driver. I had only used the portable version, and did reboot.

Still no joy.

But, I uninstalled Veracrypt, and did a fresh install of 1.23 Hotfix 2, and all is good.

If I were to make a guess, I'd say that the driver from 1.22 doesn't get upgraded properly, but a fresh install has the correct version.

Tuck...

Unload First

If you upgrade VeraCrypt Portable without fully closing and unloading the driver first, it can not fully upgrade as the driver file is locked. If you reboot and then manually upgrade it will then fix the issue.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
