Google Passwords

Log in to your Google Account. That's where all settings/user information is stored and synched from for Chromium based browsers, i.e. it's a Google requirement.

Google Account or Manual

Google Chrome specifically locks your password store to a specific Windows install whether run locally or portably. So, for instance, if you have Chrome installed locally, backup regularly to an external drive, your Windows drive dies, and you restore your Chrome profile to a new copy of Windows on a new drive, all your usernames and passwords will be gone. This is by design of the publisher. I recommend not using Chrome *ever* without being logged into a Google account.

As Google Chrome Portable regularly moves between PCs, you'll lose your password store whenever you do. So you should either log into your Google account or manually enable saving passwords to the drive using an advanced feature in the launcher. There is a warning and explanation about this on the Google Chrome Portable homepage and in as you install for the first time.

Setting

There's a setting for the launcher that will cause it to wait for Chrome to exit and then decrypt the passwords from the local machine and export them to its settings files. When you launch, it will encrypt them to the current Windows PC and restore them into Chrome. You can also optionally encrypt the password set with a machine-agnostic encryption and master password to keep them safe. See the Google Chrome Portable help.html file for details.
