Running StartPortableApps.exe from Write Protected USB Key

When I try to run the menu from a write protected device I get lots of error messages.

Checking with ProcessMmonitor I see that it is trying to create files in the portable apps folders.

Is it possible to stop this?

I think

the menu can only run correctly from a non-writeprotected drive.
