...on my Cruzer Titanium 2GB and replace it with the PortableApps Suite but there's a few things that I want to have first.
1. I like the autorun feature that comes on the drive. I would like to set it up so that it runs the Portable Apps suite. I think I've seen that happen but I don't want to wreck my $60 drive in the process of hacking it, and if I replace U3 with Portable Apps, I want all that U3 crap off of there while still keeping the autorun.
2. Certain freeware programs are available on U3 but aren't available elsewhere as portable apps - such as Yahoo Widgets. I could live without them if I had compelling reason to, but I like them too much to get rid of them right now.
In the meantime, I'm doing fine with U3 right now. I've got Firefox 2 running on there (had to swap out the innards of Firefox 1.5 to do it though), Skype, Gaim, DOSBox, Winamp (if I forget my iPod), Screamer Radio, MS Office Powerpoint Viewer, InfraRecorder (which I don't think works), as well as Yahoo Widgets and CruzerSync. Oh and I can't forget Thunderbird.
Any info would be appreciated!
Portable Apps Suite has an autorun.inf file that allows portable apps menu to give an option on insertion of your Usb Stick into your computer your using and it'll run the menu. to uninstall the u3 launchpad just go to us.com/uninstall and you can download a tool that will get rid of the launchpad (if you have a certain brand of u3 drive it is possible to reinstall as the u3 updater tool replaces the missing launchpad) but after that your cdrom particition that u3 makes will not be there (minor setback) but you'll enjoy the bliss of Portable Apps Menu

Try autolauncher4U3: http://u3usb.smithtech.us/projects/autolauncher4u3.php
It will delete U3 and you can choose the program that will be started on stick injection. Make sure to delete the hidden "system" folder on the flash drive.
...inasmuch as getting rid of U3 is your gateway to better portable computing.

You can remove it right from the u3 menu. I believe it is under settings.
Mine didn't have such option, I think only newest U3 drives come with remove option (So far the best U3 feature they have added)
Indeed.

My Cruzer Titanium is one of the ones with that option
Yahoo Widgets is opensource, it is released under the BSD Liscence.

So is there a chance of seeing a portable version of Yahoo Widgets somewhere other than on U3? Maybe on Portable Apps perhaps?
Or are GPL programs the only ones allowed?
No, it isn't. Yahoo Widgets is closed source / proprietary. The SDK to make widgets for Yahoo Widgets is open source under a BSD License.

keep his Widgets Portable away from Yahoo!'s eyes! Since he is bundeling the app with the launcher
Actually I took it back out.
I had it out originally but added it after apparently MISreading the license.
I also updated the launcher to work with v4.
You can use Universal Extractor to extract it from the installer and drop the files in the directories created by the new launcher.

DON't trash U3, cause you can put a launcher for PAM in the CD drive U3 uses to have the lazy, no-click autorun, so here is the magical app: http://usb.smithtech.us/projects/autolauncher4u3.php
Autorun a launcher with encryption
