I need to use a lab computer in class, and I got sick of notepad...especially since the teacher sent us code that was UNIX formatted. The lab computers run windows.
So, I decided to give Programmer's Notepad 2 a shot. It functions nicely. I just downloaded the setup executable, and used the "Install app" function on the portable apps menu. It starts the regular setup program, and adds the program to the menu (along with ctags and the uninstaller). I had installed using the limited rights account, which complained about not being able to add to the programs menu on the computer. No big deal, the setup continues.
I have not run into any problems running Programmer's Notepad 2 off the flash drive on any computer that I've tried it on.
Maybe a slightly different portable apps-specific installer can be developed in the future?
This program is also open source so it probably wouldn't be difficult to do.

Web Developer's Blog has this post on how to make PN2 portable (It does require a development build, but I have been using the dev build for months without conflict.)
