2 profiles that use the same general thunderbird settings

Hi everybody,

i have set up two thunderbird profiles, one that’s used by me (profile 1) and the other one used by my girlfriend (profile 2).

I take care of all programs and keep them up to date in our household. Unfortunately, when I install addons, do improvements, adjustments or fixes to thunderbird for profile 1 I have to do the same (often fiddly and pesky) process for profile 2 so that both thunderbird profiles benefit from my changes and stay on the same level.

Is there any way in which both profiles use the same general settings for the menu, arrangement and style and only differ in their individual e-mail account and address book settings? Or in other words: Both profiles shall use their own settings only regarding their used e-mail-addresses and address books but other than that use the same general settings for thunderbird.

So far, I have tested the thunderbird portable 2nd profile app which is great for the portableapps-updater to update both profiles. But it does not make the second profile use the general TB-settings of the main profile.

I would be thankful if anyone could help me out.

By Design

This separation is by design as the two profiles are entirely separate. The settings for both layout/extensions and email accounts are included in the same file, so you can't even manually copy over just the settings but not the accounts easily.

Oh, what a pity :/

Oh, what a pity :/

What file are you talking about that summarizes all the settings? Maybe the file "prefs.js"?

Thank you very much for your help John!

Yeah

Yeah, it's prefs.js. You'll find all your account settings, Firefox settings, and most extension settings in there. Sorry there's not an easier solution.

You're welcome.
