I use Firefox Portable 55.0.2 on Windows 10. I just spent about 2 hours looking for a way to change the taskbar icon. I want to set a custom taskbar icon for every instance of Firefox Portable that I run.
I tend to run about 5 Firefoxes at the same time, and it becomes hard to know which one is which. So I would like to set a custom taskbar icon for each, make the taskbar icon a simple number, and that will be that.
So my taskbar will look like this:
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5
Instead of like this:
FF | FF | FF | FF | FF
Here is what I'm talking about - https://i.imgur.com/ZhHUdNV.png
I would rather do this by editing the Firefox Portable files/folders somehow. But even a solution to where I use Windows 10 or some 3rd party program to set the taskbar icon for each portable window would work.
How can I do this?
Thanks
Place your desired icon as: FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox\browser\chrome\icons\default\main-window.ico
If any of the sub-directories don't exist, create them first.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Hey John,
Thanks for the reply, but it didn't work.
I created the missing sub-directories, and created an ico file (dimensions 48x48) and named it as you said. When I turn on Firefox the icon in the taskbar is still the Firefox icon.
I tried clearing the browser cache, I thought maybe it affects it. I tried closing and opening the browser multiple times. The browser icon remains the same.
Does it require specific dimensions? Maybe it requires a computer restart for the change to take effect?
I also tried a 256x256 icon.
I tried opening Firefox from the shortcut I have for it on my desktop, and from the .exe file from the Firefox directory.
Ohhhhhhh then I put the folder in "Firefox64" also, and it worked!
So that worked perfectly, thank you very much
I was getting desperate yesterday, feeling great now haha
