For some time updates to both the PA platform and apps have been failing with errors like:
---------------------------
PortableApps.com Platform
---------------------------
Unable to download the file. This could be due to a proxy or network issue or the hosting server not permitting downloads from your location. File: http://portableapps.com/redirect/?s=p&a=AudacityPortable&d=sfpa&wv=8.1&f...
I've checked the other posts and tried the various workarounds or troubleshooting steps. I'm able to download the referenced link from within all browsers including IE. Of the apps I have installed, all fail EXCEPT for Database Browser and LibreOffice. A couple take slightly longer to fail, but fail never the less.
What additional information can I gather that can help pinpoint the problem?
Thanks.
Do you have a local software firewall or corporate/university firewall that may be affecting connections? What OS are you using? Note that Windows XP and Vista will have issues connecting with modern encryption now.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I'm currently running Windows 10 1909. It's certainly likely that there is a firewall between me and the internet. However, given that I can download the applications directly from IE, Chrome, and Firefox WITHOUT specifying a proxy, I'm not sure how that could be the problem.
As I mentioned, it's also interesting that a couple apps with update just fine while the majority fail.
Portable Apps Platform is trying to update automatically but it results in an error: "Portable Apps Updater Still Running." I cannot "close" the updater that is trying to update. Screenshot: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yp1LhHZWvPJfisna6
I tried several times to make the update work prior to posting the above comment. I just tried again and the update worked. Nothing changed except that I commented on this forum. Hmmm????
I'm getting an update error too. I'm also getting an download failed when I try to download the newest update directly from portableapps or from sourceforge.
