I am on the mozila site too because FF-portable suddenly does the weirdest thing. In short: when I click a link in mail or anywhere else a NEW instance of firefox portable seems to start, with a different profile. Same exe, 2 different profiles from 2 different locations on my pc.

Question from the person that has been very helpful on mozila forums:
I didn't think Firefox Portable could run multiple instances, or that it would ever use a profile outside of its own folders. That would be something new compared with their usual builds. Could you check on their forum whether this is the expected behavior or a bug?
Any help is much appreciated.
Sounds like you have set Firefox as the default browser from Firefox's Options ( about:preferences > always check if Firefox is the default browser) - don't do that, as it registers
Firefox.exe
instead ofFirefoxPortable.exe
. When this happens, firefox.exe is doesn't know where your (portable) profile is, so it creates/uses one under your user account directoriesSee this issue: https://portableapps.com/node/61000 - edit: as a solution to fix your registry entries (assuming you are on windows)
As for running multiple Firefoxes - it's as easy as pie. Just unpack as many as you want. And use the FirefoxPortable.ini entry
AllowMultipleInstances=true
if you want to allow running them concurrently.Here's some stuff I wrote years ago

- https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js/wiki/2.3-Concurrent-Profiles (has some pretty pictures)
Thanks for that. But that solution will make FF my default browser. Which (seems to be) excatly what I don;t want? I would like FF to stay portable.

aha. Also need to change the "standaard programma's" to mozilla firefox, Portable edition. I se I have 3 (!) firefox'es on my pc...
