MindMapping app

Hi,

It would be great if it was possible to add some sort of mind-mapping software to the portable apps range.
I'd vote for FreeMind (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page) because it supports MindManager (mindjet.com) files. However any decent app described in http://www.mind-mapping.org/ could work as well.

Hello welcome 2 PortableApps.com

Please Search before posting, there have been lots of requests for Portable Mindmapping software, and as for FreeMind there are directions on the site 4 making it portable!

As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp MySt http://www.freewebs.com/espreapps

eMindMaps

Before the days of MindManager - MindJet produced eMindMaps. Hasn't been available for a while and was replaced by a much bloated MindManager. This is an excellent programme for producing true mind map layout. I use my copy at work and as a teacher it is my favourite application - i use it as a portable app... and don't seem to have had any problems yet!

FreeMind doesn't exactly produce an intuitive mind map and i'd ask any competent programmer/PortableApps.com to contact MindJet and ask if they'd be prepared to release the old code so it could be updated for win2k/XP.

It was a very small application and yet no-one else has produced anything like it. Sorry i can't post a few to show you but... another required for this group perhaps... somewhere to post files for illustration.

Anyone who has the knowledge to develop a clone (it was a small app) i'd be able to send the files. [jessejazza@inbox.com]. It is now unavailable and MindJet quite happy for it to be distributed. My copy came from a PC mag. While a win95 app i have had no problems running it as portable but i'd imagine on later operating systems one could end up with a few technical problems.

Any instructions?

Hi Jessejazza,
Are you able to elaborate on which version of MM you made portable and how you went about it?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Freemind is Portable

I have been using Freemind as a portable app for over two months. I copied the installation from my laptop to another PC, c:\temp\Freemind, and it works. Not I have this on my USB Key and it works no issues.

I also have JDiskReport on the USB key. This is very useful and works very well.
