VeraCrypt Portable and vault read/write performance when sharing a USB drive

Hey, all. I tried to search the forums for a previous discussion about this and didn't see anything that seemed relevant.

What kind of performance hit (if any) could I expect if I opt to run VeraCrypt Portable off the same portable USB drive as the location of the vault itself? Just curious to know if read/write performance would be significantly better if VC were installed on each system instead.

If this has come up before, a pointer to the topic would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Probably None

I'd wager there'd be no performance difference. Most apps the media only affects load times and a small app like VeraCrypt isn't dynamically loading any of itself once it's loaded. I don't recall VeraCrypt having any need to cache, which is one thing that does affect an app while it is running (which is why Firefox cache is disabled by default for instance).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
