GAIM connects but not Firefox

Hey at school the computers are suppoused to be locked down so people cant access the internet; however triallian and portable GAIM both can connect to the net (I think because of the ports not sure) Is there any way to modify firefox so it can access these holes too? The reason this sparks so much intrest is the person in charge of the network repeatedly claims there are no holes, i wanna prove him wrong.
Thanks

Easy I'm doing this sort of

Easy I'm doing this sort of thing all the time.

1. Open gaim and go to the settings page. Make a note of the ports it uses.
2. Open Firefox and go Tools > Options > Connection Settings.
3. Paste in the appropriate port numbers.

If you need any more help dont hesitate to ask.

Steve

If the tech guy wanted to get on the net with that computer, all he would have to do is take down the outbound firewall. No need to purposely leave a hole.

The web is port 80

if they block port 80, you need to find another way of doing it entirely. An anonymous proxy, for instance, but they may have those locked down as well.

Keep in mind that getting around this block and getting caught (which is likely if your admins are any good) in many schools can result in all your computer priveledges being terminated for the entire school year.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Didn't Work

Ya i tried Port 80, all the Instant Messaging Ports, and random others, but they are all locked. Iam trying to get the school to open the computers to the net using a smoothwall or some type of filtering software, my Prinicipal knows iam trying to get through, he thinks it wont work but he didn't think Messenger would work either. I guess i cant get through but it was worth a shot. Thanks for the help. Ill just stick to doing Yearbook now. Nice programs by the way.
