Icon in taskbar button not showing after updating apps

I have noticed that since updating to PA version 17.1, that after I update apps, the PA icon disappears from the taskbar button.
It seems to be doing it consistently now, albeit only when it actually updates some apps and then must refresh the menu.
If I close PA and open it again, the icon is back.
Windows 10 Pro v2004 (build 19041.508) on i7-9700 with RTX2070.
PA installed on root of 1TB Samsung Evo 850 external USB 3.0 SSD.

Can't reproduce

I can't reproduce this here. Can you give more details like your install path and what specific app update causes it to disappear, please?

Also, could you try a temporary install of the platform to your desktop and add a couple small apps to see if it happens with a new install as well, thanks.

Additional info

Hi John,

As I mentioned, it's installed in the root of an external SSD (in this case, my W:\ drive), so Start.exe is in root and then W:\PortableApps for everything in the platform environment.

The apps that are updated don't seem to matter. It just did it again today, and I think it updated Opera or Opera GX, McAfee Stinger, D-Speech, and Wise Data Recovery. The apps it updated a couple days ago would have been different apps.

However, additionally, it also does the same thing on my laptop at home. Not nearly as robust a system as the PC at my office, it's a 15" Dell Inspiron with a Core i5 and integrated graphics, running Win10 64-bit v2004. On the laptop, PA is installed in my ProgramData folder (C:\ProgramData\PortableApps). I only have about 3 dozen apps in that one, and actually just did a fresh install a month or two ago with (most likely) the 17.0 installer, because it was starting to take a looooong time to load PA after rebooting the laptop, which has a Silicon Power 1TB SSD in it, so it seemed odd to take a full minute to load PA, so I thought a fresh install might help, which only ended up helping a little bit.

I just installed PA 17.1.1 fresh in the C: drive of my desktop PC at work (referenced in the first post) at C:\temp-folder\PortableApps with 21 apps installed. I just realized I won't be able to determine if the error will be reproducible in this test setup until one of these apps has an available update. Is there an app you know of that is going to have an update ready in the next day or two, so I can install it prior to that update being pushed out to the PA Update server?

Force Update

You can force and update by opening an app's AppInfo.ini files and editing the package version to be an earlier version.

The platform shouldn't take that long to open, either. From a slow external SSD the platform with all the app installed (430+) it comes up quick.
