I've just updated Calibre to version 5.0.1 and find that the program won't run. Instead I get an error window titled: Unhandled exception running calibre.
The error message says:

I'm running Windows 10 Pro x64 2004
Thanks fro any help

It's working here on both my upgrade and fresh install on Windows 10 x64 build 1903. Please "include system details (OS version, 32 vs 64-bit, install path, new vs upgrade, etc)" as well as any additional relevant details (antivirus, antimalware, whether a local copy works, etc) and anything else you think my be interfering with the app on your PC. Also try it on another PC as a test if you have access to one.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Also with this error on:
Windows 10 Home x64 1909 with NOD32
The folder is (D:\Kostadin\Portable Programmes\PortableApps\calibrePortable)
I will check later on another with Windows 10 Home x64 1903 with Defender
I just fresh download from the PortableApps site, and it is working.
But not updated from the old one.
This situation is on 2 systems:
Windows 10 Home x64 1909 with NOD32
Windows 10 Home x64 1903 with Defender
First make a backup. Then delete your calibrePortable\App\calibre dirtectory. Then install a fresh download right over it (being sure it's installing to X:\whatever\calibrePortable).

Didn't work this way, only when is completely fresh !
What add-ons have you added to calibre?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
None, the folder is empty
I found solution, it is similar:
Delete the whole directory "App" in "calibrePortable", and the install a fresh download over it.
I've the same error.
W10 Pro 1909 64 bits
I need more details. Not just a 'me too'.

ok, I repair it. I install calibre again.
thanks anyway.
calibre Portable 5.0.1 also installs, starts the wizard (selecting generic) and comes up with the library view on first run on Windows 10 x86 Build 2004, Windows 10 x64 Build 2004, Windows 7 x86 (all updates), and Windows 7 x64 (all updates). I can not reproduce your issue on any PC or virtual machine I have access to. Everything works as expected.
I need to determine what is interfering with calibre on your machines to troubleshoot further. The more details that could lead to that the better.
Also, if you are able, please install the local version and see if that works as expected. And try installing their official slightly less portable version to see if that works.

I've pushed out a rev 2 that does a full clean upgrade of App for existing users. Anyone still having issues likely has an incompatible plugin or profile setting going on due to the 5.x series release.

Thanks John. Rev 2 has fixed the issue for me.

5.0.1 Rev 2
Thank you John! Rev 2 has fixed the issue for me, also. Best Regards

That would be a question you'd need to address with the publisher of the app. We just make it portable.
