I've installed and reinstalled OpenOffice numerous times and still I get an app, or maybe two, to run and then they all refuse to run. If this is the best Sun can do then it's no wonder they haven't made any headway against MSOffice. In fact, I find the program amateurish-looking and a far cry from a professional office suite of applications.
Very disappointing.

Open Office Problems
I am sure that the many government entities and businesses that are using OpenOffice.org or individuals using OOo Portable are struck by their stupidity for not seeing this sooner. Posting some details of the problems you have encountered may have gotten you some help, but there is no explanation.
I use Open Office at my job 6 hours a day. Working with spreadsheets that are shared between Excel and Calc users, designing database forms and creating business documents and drawings for the international manufacturer I work for. I assure you it is not an amateur program, and it is making strong headway against MS Office.
Just look at OOo 2.2's integrated export to PDF. It will export html links, bookmarks and thumbnails, with compression and encryption.
There are some areas where OOo maybe behind MS Office, but there are several where it is many steps ahead.
