I searched and couldn't find this noted.
I just tried installing all the WINE on Linux supported Apps, and they all installed VERY fast INSIDE VIRTUAL PC.
OpenOffice.org installed in about a minute on my Ubuntu 6.10 Virtual PC Machine.
And they all work great to. That has been mentioned. But I'm wondering, howcome they install so fast? Oh, and for the Apps in beta, I'm sure you already know John, I know you tested, Virtual Magnifying Glass Portable, and Scite on WINE on Linux. But umm, I just wanted to note that mines-perfect doesn't seem to run. Just so you know, not complaining. Just making a note.
So yea. Go PortableApps.com and Linux. I love Ubuntu.
On a side-note: Does anybody know how to get a slightly highed screen-resolution for Ubuntu. It only gives me three defaults, and I need slightly larger than what I have now.
Edit
Why don't the splashes display? Just curious. I'm sure there's some obvious reason. But I don't know it.
Edit
John, I just wanted to let you know, KompoZer, PuTTY, KeePass, and SumatraPDF are not in the application compatibility chart. I'm not sure weather this has been mentioned, but I just wanted to let you know.
Wine does not have all the crap Winblows does, plus Wine does not have a lot of crap running in the backround!

As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp.
Espreon, can we just cut down a little on the Linux fan-boy-ism, please. I think everyone here knows your views and that comment really wasn't really very helpful. As for why the splash screens don't work I'm guessing that the plug-in John uses calls some functions that simply haven't been written for Wine yet.

So... my Portable Apps should run under WINE on Ubuntu, then. I haven't tried it out yet. I recently installed WINE so my kid could play a Windows game on my Linux computer. It worked very well. I'll have to try it out with PA.
If you check out the Compatabily Chart it should tell you all of the apps that work under WINE. Note, there is a couple like KeePass, and SumatraPDF, and PuTTY that are not listed in that chart. SumatraPDF works on WINE. I think PuTTY does, but I don't know alot about the porpose of PuTTY. And even though it's not noted, VLC Media Player wokred for me on WINE too.
But be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and read that "Notes" section.

I tried using PA under WINE last night, but I couldn't see the flash drive while I was in the WINE interface. I must've been doing something wrong. I plugged in my PA drive, opened up WINE through the terminal, but I could not find the flash drive.
Don't you just have the Wine inviromment installed right ontop of your version of Linux. And then, open up PortableApps from the drive it's inserted in.

Not sure what you mean. WINE is installed, what do you mean by "on top?"
I don't know much about Wine. But you sound like you have to use your version of Wine seperately, for my version, I just downloaded it from the Add/Remove programs in Ubuntu, and it always runs now. I don't have to "start anything up" to use wine. It's just...there.

This link has the manual and automatic way. You can try the auto way but I havn't.
To do it manually you have to edit xorg.conf
Firstly backup xorg.conf
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Scroll down untill you find the screen section or monitor. Find the list of resolutions and add in whatever resolution you want. Restart X with ctrl+alt+backspace
Then you can change to the resolution
