Is PAM using the Net???

Today it occurred for the second time so I thought I'd mention it.
After closing Gimp, my Firewall said PAM wanted to contact 224.0.0.22.

Anyone had the same???Ideas???Hints???

Research

224.0.0.22 is a multicast ip address for Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP). Most likely this is resulting from either TeamSpeak or GoogleTalk. Did you install either of them shortly before you noticed the requests?

IANA tells us it's used for IGMP as said above.
Wikipedia tells us that IGMP is an integral part of the IP multicast specification, like ICMP for unicast connections. IGMP can be used for online video and gaming, and allows more efficient use of resources when supporting these uses.

I get that after just simply launching PAM with nothing else. I have no VOIP or Gamming voice apps installed. For that matter, I have only 3 games in PA (mine sweeper, truck dismount, and soduku) and Postal 2 and then the default games from M$ installed and nothing else. I also get the same message from Explorer and I think I saw it on another app as well. All going to 224.0.0.22.

Ideas?

Me too

Zone Alarm was telling me that "PortableAppsMenu is trying to access a trusted zone" or something like that. It started doing it about a month ago.

Multicast

That's actually Windows itself making the contact internally for discovery of services. It's a reserved IP address (it doesn't actually exist anywhere):

That would be your firewall improperly reporting it as PAM queries the OS about its features, which seems pretty bad if it's a firewall you paid for. PAM doesn't even have any networking components included in it at the moment (there's no auto-updater).

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I thought so

I would have been very surprised if PAM could do network stuff.
I didn't pay for my firewall, its Sygate's Personal Firewall.

I to thought it was odd and am using Sygate Free as well. I have never seen Sygate give out erroneous info before...

Me 2

The only problem I'm having with Sygate is that I can't send large Mails without switching to "allow all" mode while sending.
