I started using portable nvu to create a new website I was working on, but hit some bugs in the program which put me off it. After chasing some leads down on the internet it seems like there has been no interest in the nvu project from the developers since the middle of last year. If ony an updated version could be released I think this could possibly be one of the most powerful portable apps that could exist. The power of dreamweaver on a stick, oh so good. Having learned nvu pretty thoroughly I can say it really could be so powerful. I really don't have any clue how to write a program myseld so I will have to leave it to others, all I can do is say that I really hope the dev will continue so one day soon I can be runnind nvu 1.5 off my flashdrive while I update my website at my gf's house.
John, I really hope you can bring another release of this program to the community. All my support in the continuing dev of portable apps, this site has got to be the end of the rainbow as far as quality programming is concerned, it brings the best of open source together in one place and then takes the one-last step in optimization. True portability.
Gabe
Good point -- but John only makes launchers, not the actual programs.
~nm35 {blog} {projects} {standalone apps}
NVU is only an adaptation of the composer you can find in the mozilla suite !!! this is why there is so few updates => wait till the next release of Mozilla (aka SeaMonkey now)
Since Nvu is no longer under dev, then could Composer then be made into a portable app? I know it's bound to the Mozilla suite, but since John's now working more closely with the Mozilla devs, maybe he can finagle a stand-alone version of Composer from them that he can "work his magic" on.

I dont think that's possible, but I've certainy like it.
I have no need for Seamonkey, but i use NVU (despite its bugs) heavily.
NVU is based on Composer but has none of it's (outdated code)
glazman.org/weblog (creator of NVU)
Is making a "Composer 2" with brand new code and long life !
The www.kompozer.net is a bug-correction-only release of NVU
While we wait for NVU to be updated, someone has made a spinoff called Kompozer which fixes many of NVU's bugs. Maybe John could make a portable version of this. But its only a beta.
http://kompozer.net/
A guy already made a portable version, but apparantly it was only in german and the download link's broken.
A little necro, but I have been able to code a launcher for KompoZer. It's structure is much like NVU, thus you can use the NVU Launcher's source with a small modification by changing the references to NVU into Kompozer.
You should be able to create a kompozer folder in the Apps directory, and pull settings if you have already run it on your computer.
It uses portable apps code, and some editted portable apps stuff. I won't upload it unless I have John's permission.
I actually prepped one for release alongside Nvu Portable for today but decided against it since it appears that Kompozer is now a dead project.

I could say the same for NVU. Their forum's database is long gone and the project has not seen any updates to fix anything.
True, but it's still being used by quite a few folks. I was hoping Kompozer would be maintained until the new Composer2 was completed.

What's Composer2?
The composer component of the Mozilla Suite, which I believe is now SeaMonkey.
Composer 2 is planned to be a standalone web editing package based on the most recent gecko engine releases. It's being worked on by the same guy that did Nvu. It's essentially Nvu 2.... similar functionality, using the latest rendering bits (like Firefox 2 and Thunderbird 2).

Do you have any plans to make a portable version of Composer 2 then, John?

Once it's released it's going up here.

I'd love to see a Kompozer Portable to feature in my portableapps usb stick
still using N-Vu portable at the moment, but since Kompozer 0.77 is "newer" than N-vu 1.0, i'd prefer the first.
if you could pull this trick, that'd be great! thanks!
cheers
Well, here's a link:
http://twar3draconis.110mb.com/downloads/KompozerPortable.paf.exe
I'll be taking it down within 24 hours for bandwith reasons.
thanks a bunch, but if only you hadn't taken it down by now
could you please e-mail me the file? zkee1"AT"hotmaildotcom.
I'd really appreciate that!
cheers
It's still up. I'll extend the time limit to Feb.23 3:00 GMT - 5
don't click the install button during the install process because there is no install button. it's labelled "installer"

Look's like I'll have to ResHack that. Thanks for the notification! It won't affect the actual program though.
prob.

Same link, but it has now been updated to reflect changings in the core NVU Portable Launcher. Special thanks to Lunar Plague (magicmax902) for compiling it on Vista so that we could have that compatibility.
