No

I don't think it can. You would need a different version for mac because their programs are compiled differently. The app on macs is a package where as in Windows there are seperate files.

PApps startup

As long as the USB drive was inserted before/as Windows is starting up and gets the same drive letter, wouldn't dragging a shortcut of "StartPortableApps.exe" to the Start>All Probrams>Startup folder work?

Sorry... don't know squat about Mac's...

Yes, as long as the drive

Yes, as long as the drive was plugged in when windows starts, and the drive letter doesn't change creating a shortcut in the startup folder would work.
For situations where the drive letter may change you can use my applauncher as it will search local drives for PAM, the applauncher.exe would have to be on the PC, not the usb drive, you could just put the applauncher.exe in the startup folder.
App Launcher

What if?

What if the drive isn't plugged in? Would Applauncher generate a "can not find" error, or just do nothing?

On startup

Two different scenarios. You can pick which one you're asking about.

1) When Windows boots up, the Portable Apps icon immediately appears in and runs from the status bar.
->If this is the case, then yes, you need to have your USB stick inserted when/as Windows starts so that the shortcut in the Start>All Programs>Startup folder has something to point to.
or
->Have the "portable apps" run from the local hard drive... but this defeats the whole "portable" idea...

2) Portable Apps runs as soon as you insert your USB stick after windows boots.
->If this is the desired result, then you're looking for nothing more than a simple Autorun.inf file which can be found here.

It should just do

It will just do nothing.
I forgot though, you can't put the exe in the startup folder.
The applauncher needs to be started with the -a argument to automatically search and launch, otherwise it will open the settings interface.
Just save the applauncher.exe to a folder on your computer, doesn't matter where.
Then create a shortcut to it in the startup folder with the -a argument.
The shortcut properties should look similar to this "C:\My Files\applauncher.exe" -a
