WinPE2.0 - Menu

If I plug the USB device into windows all works well.

What I would like to do is boot into WINPE2.0 and then launch the app menu.

When I try to run PortableAppsMenu.exe I get the following error
"Error reading Trayiconmenu.Visable. Cannot create shell notification icon"

If I manually launch the apps from their folders (such as Firefox) they work fine.

Would really like to use that great menu if possible.

Thanks

I think

the menu doesnt work with BartPE or WinPE.

Systray

The PE editions of Windows are heavily-modified, non-standard, technically-illegal copies of Windows and won't work with lots of regular software... including any applications that use the system tray. The menu uses the system tray, so it won't work with PE.

That said, the next release is introducing an option to place it in the taskbar instead of just the systray. I'll work on making it taskbar-only as well for compatibility if people genuinely want it.

John, This is actually what

John,
This is actually what prompted my first request for a clickable image, I wanted to use it with BartPE.
PAM does work with BartPE with a few quirks if you are using an additional plugin that gives you the sys tray like XPE or GeoShell.
I believe the PE editions are legal as long as you personally own the additional Windows License.

For those who have fought for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.

legality...

When ti comes to the PE distros that are out there like WinPE and BartPE. The only real issue of using PE and a legal standpoint would be with using PE in a VM. If you use PE in a VM, then you have to have 2 licenses for use on that machine. There is nothing illegal in using a PE. If you have a VLK like in a corp environ, then you can use it on any of those corp machines. This is due to you are reusing the local seat for the PE instead of the native OS.

It is illegal to make a PE using a license for one machine and then use it on another machine with a different license. Then it could be illegal in a sense that it is not the license that the machine shipped with or was upgraded to.

When it comes right down to it, as long as the naive OS is not in use at the same time that the PE is running or the machine that the license is borrowing is turned off, then there is no issue. It is all about tracking your licenses. If your thinknig of the code used, both M$ (that produces WinPE) and BartPE never ship the OS code with them. You have to provide all the files for the build so it can then build the iso. No source install disk, no PE build. This alleviates the issue of re-distributing source code that is not supposed to be handed out to anyone that does not already have the install disk.

I hope that this helps clarify the issue of the legailty of PE and its use.

As for PAM in PE, I doubt it will work in WinPE as it is a Command line version of XP while BartPE is a GUI and it in fact does work. I know this as I am apart of UBCD4Win and use that BartPE variant with PAM all the time at work.
