Next release
As has been stated many, many times, the next release will use the appinfo.ini file. That's the whole reason for it being there.
It'll also have the ability to rename within the menu itself.

is the new menu going to use
on the new menu, what you actually see on the menu - is that going to be read from the name=, shortname=, or description= key?
i searched last time but couldn't find anything which is why i posted. searching again now.
oh, and is a new version (or beta 4) coming soon?

i guess i will just start putting my text in all 3 places.
surely it's got to be one of the three... name, shortname or description.
i can't find the info anywhere and i really dont want to have to rebuild all of my apps again later once the spec is released.

Heh.
Yeh. Mind you, I know something else which will be read out of the appinfo.ini
I use 7-Zip Portable or one of the newer, simple apps to get an appinfo.ini off.

alot of the apps include an

that doesn't explain which key is actually going to be displayed on the next menu.
any information on what keys are going to be used/displayed by the new menu would be helpful.
