update destroyed profile and all accounts

Yesterday when Thunderbird auto-updated it destroyed my profile and disconnected all mail accounts.

Can anyone please help with a method of restoring these that doesn't involve trying multiple methods (typically 'none of' that will work)?

I won't place all the PC specs etc here, unless there are different methods for each OS.. I have used Thunderbird and Portable Apps for many years and have never experienced this issue before.

Corrupt prefs.js

This is almost always a corrupt prefs.js when this happens to either a local or portable install. You can restore it from a backup (if you have one) and there may be a backup in the profile directory if Thunderbird detected an issue. Check your ThunderbirdPortable\Data\profile directory within the Imapmail and Mail folders to ensure your mail storage is still intact.

Be sure you are only launching it via the PA.c Platform or ThunderbirdPortable.exe directly.
