the new post link doesn't seem to work if the new post is on a second or third page etc.
is this an issue with drupal? any way to fix it?

They do have one for images. You draw a rough picture and it searches for any pictures roughly matching it.

Just out of curiosity I usually do a search when someone says "Coulld [sic] you search before you post?"
In this particular case what "intuitive" search criteria would you have used to find the answer.
