Chop down Flash MX 2004 in size and make it portable!

Hey everybody,
I've been going around this site in amazement thinking how many of my favorite programs I could use out of the house, so I decided to try it with Flash MX 2004.

Now bear with me this is my first portabilized application so there will be some registry entries left over.

1. Install and authorize your copy of Flash MX 2004, then navigate to the programs main folder (in my case C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash MX 2004\).

2. Make a folder to hold the program's files (I recommend directly on your flashdrive, that is if you have about 32 MB to spare).

3. Copy the following files and folders to the folder you have just created.
Flash.exe
xerces-c_2_1_0.dll
en\Configuration\ActionScript\
en\Configuration\Components\
en\Configuration\Icons\
en\Configuration\Importers\
en\Configuration\Libraries\
en\Configuration\authplay.dll
en\Configuration\configuration.xml
en\Configuration\FlashResources.dll
en\Configuration\PSFONT.TXT

4. Export [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\] from your registry.

5. Come back to this post and tell me how it worked!

NOTE: You will have to install the registry files before you run the program

It might be better....

It might be better if you could make an executable launcher that will handle the registry stuff automatically.

OK

It didn't work for me, but I have Flash 8 and didn't follow it exactly. What should happen if I copied all the files for it onto my flash drive?
Also, what is meant by step 4? I don't know what you mean.

Not Recommended

I wouldn't bother with this, copying installed program files to a USB Drive, and exporting a few registry entries doesn't make a program portable. There's a lot more to it than that.

In most cases whenever you then run that program from the USB drive it will simply create new registry entries on every computer that you use, leaving them behind each time. In some cases the program won't even run at all on other computers, just the one it was originally installed on.

I believe there are some ways to get Flash working with Firefox Portable, try a search of these forums.
