I have two laptops.
Acer Aspire 5, which is really old.
Acer Nitro, which is an entry level gaming laptop.
If you remember, many months ago, I was having some issues with Firefox Portable. I forgot what they were. But I did a clean install and started over and did everything right that time. So there shouldn't be any issues.
So anyway, I've been getting a lot of update alerts from the browsers on both computers and have been constantly launching PortableApps.com Platform to update the browser.
As of now, one browser is completely updated. The one on my Acer Aspire 5. It shows that the installed version is 94.0.1 and that it is up to date.
But on my Acer Nitro 5, the browser keeps showing that it needs an update. It is showing installed version 94.0.0. And when I launch the PortableApps.com Platform, the PA.comP is not at all prompting me to update my browser. Why not? It's so frustrating. I don't want to do a clean install again. Also, I always use PA.comP to update my browser. Maybe I can do it through the browser itself, but I want to play it safe and only use PA.comP each and every time for consistency.
I'm going to restart my computer now and see if that helps. Ugh. Update: Yeah, restarting my computer didn't help.
I checked both installations of PortableApps.com Platform, and they are both updated to the same latest version.
But I did discover one thing. Not sure if this will help.
If I go to PortableApps.com Platform, click on Help, click on About, and click the last tab that says Apps, it shows the apps that I have installed and it's showing Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 94.0.1 (FirefoxPortable). Why does the PortableApps.com Platform think that I have the latest version of Firefox Portable, but Firefox Portable itself thinks that I have 94.0.0 instead of 94.0.1?
EDIT: I am impatient. So I'm just going to use the browser's update button to update it to latest version. Hopefully this won't create any problems further down the road.
To be on the safe side, I suggest to download the Firefox Portable app, and do a manual update, using the downloaded .paf file. This would ensure that both the platform and any required portable installation activities for Firefox portable proceed as expected.
Of course, having Pa.c update Firefox through the PA.c update is the best.
PA.comP seems a bit unreliable. I've been using it to update Portable Firefox on both laptops. But today, I noticed that one laptop was telling me that my browser still needed to be updated. This time it was the Acer Aspire 5, and not the Acer Nitro 5. And when I launched PA.comP, it didn't prompt me to update anything. So once again, I had to use the browser menu to update the browser and not PA.comP. The last time this happened (original post) it was the other way around. It was the Acer Nitro 5 that didn't update. I wish that PA.comP was a bit more reliable. If I can't count on PA.comP to keep my browsers updated, then what is the point of even having it? The only reason I have it is to pin the browser to my taskbar. But other than that, I can't think of any purpose.
I have 3 separate PA.c installs and all updated Firefox Portable to 95.0 without issue. Two in the root, one in the user profile. The two in the root have been updating to every single release of Firefox Portable for the last 13 months without issue. They're my test beds and that's when I got the drive they are on.
For the affected install, please include the OS version, 32-bit vs 64-bit, complete path to the PortableApps directory, etc. Also include the path to and the contents of Firefox Portable's AppInfo.ini file (within FirefoxPortable\App\AppInfo).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
