Toucan 3.18 not encrypting

I am trying for the first time to use Toucan to encrypt a directory on a travel USB. If it makes a difference, I am dual booting between Windows 7.1 and Linux Mint 20.3 and my problem arises when running Toucan from the USB to try and encrypt directories on the USB.

To begin, I click "secure", then in the LH pane I click on the folder I want to encrypt. In the middle of the screen I click on the green + until the folder I want to encrypt appears in the RH pane.

If I then click on "run" near the top of the screen I get a box asking for the password to decrypt. After matching the passwords I get a listing of all the files with a note "failed to encrypt" then file name then :8 at the end which I assume is an error code but I can't figure out what that means.

I have also tried inserting the variable "location" and I get the same results.

Thanks for any help you can give me. Given how I intend to use the USB (with only portableapps installed, I'd really like to be able to just encrypt my data directories for travel. Thanks

Working Here

It's working here doing the same. What's the full path and file name? Are there non-ASCII characters in the path or file names? Try it on another location, like a temporary Test folder on your desktop.

Got it working-kinda

I was able to get it working as long as I did it on a file by file basis. Not sure it's my solution as I was looking for something that will encrypt an entire directory and I simply can't. I am encrypting c:/data and what is contained in there is simply .doc .pdf and .xls files. There is a whole bunch of subdirectories under c:/data and I simply can't make it work using directories and not files.

Thanks for your help

Confirmed

I can confirm there is a bug in Toucan when encrypting the contents of a folder that has subfolders. The subfolders are losing their trailing \ when passed to the command line to encrypt. I've created an issue to track this: https://github.com/PortableApps/Toucan/issues/43

Known Issue?

Hello. Should this problem be listed as a Known Issue in the Known Issues area of the description, at least until such time as it gets fixed?
Can you tell me if any previous versions don't have this problem? I really need to encrypt many folders which contain many subfolders on multiple thumbdrives (travel documents and such).

Developer

Toucan is maintained by a single developer and they have not seen this post. No one else can answer for them.

Okay, thanks. It's

Okay, thanks. It's unfortunate that any software has only one person working on it, but I understand. I hope they see it, eventually.
