EverythingPortable as a Service

Hello all,

i want to start EverythingPortable as a service and clicked accordingly in the Erverything interface. And indeed the service is started.

But if I try to search something and click on EverythingPortable in the Launcher to open the interface I get an Error saying that an insance of Everything is already running.

When I clkick ...\App\Everything\Everything.exe or Everything64.exe durectly it works .

Is this a configuration problem of sorts ?

Thanks a lot !

Norbert

Not Supported

When you set it to run directly as a service, it is running outside the included EverythingPortable.exe launcher. As such, it's a separate instance and won't use the same settings. If you want it to start with Windows, start the PA.c Platform with Windows and have Everything Portable set to start automatically.

This is a problem

'Everything' started as a service or admin can index NTFS Volumes , 'Everything' started as a non-admin user cannot do that. ( see https://www.voidtools.com/support/everything/everything_service/)
Because in my use case 'Everything' shall index a local pc only it might be the best course in this case to just install it

Many thanks and best regards,

Norbert

Run as Admin

You can right-click the app in the PA.c Platform and select to run it as admin. You can't do this with having it automatically start at the moment, though.

Windows Task Scheduler?

You can use the Windows Task Scheduler if you want the program to run both with admin priviledges and at startup. You would just set executing the EverythingPortable Launcher as the task's action.

This does mean that it pretty much will not be portable anymore. I don't think this will be an issue for you, however.
