How often are apps rescanned on VirusTotal

My understanding is that all PortableApps.com apps are scanned by VirusTotal before they are approved to be served to the PortableApps.com Platform.

Is this understanding correct?

If so, how often are they rescanned? The engines and definitions used by VirusTotal are always improving, and so rescanning is obviously important.

Of course, VirusTotal can easily miss malware, so it should only be used as a small component of any security setup.

You can always follow the

You can always follow the links to the VirusTotal results and manually start a rescan by yourself, if you feel uncertain.

Good idea

Thanks. That's a good idea. I can do it for a few of the apps. To which links are you referring?

Unfortunately, I can't reasonably do this for all the apps on PortableApps, as it takes about 1-2 minutes for each app; thus each full scan of all the apps will take hours. It definitely needs to be automated.

Is it currently automatically done by the PortableApps.com team for all the PortableApps.com apps, and if not, is this a reasonable request? Seems like it could really be useful for 2 reasons:

  1. To check apps using current malware engines and current definitions.
  2. To stay 1 step ahead of any potential reports due to false positives, or of course, real positives. PortableApps.com has an excellent reputation (and history), and I think we all would like it to maintain that reputation.
