PortableApps Updater problems...

The built-in updater is listing lots of updates for the apps on my USB drive. When I click Next to download and install them, it goes to the Downloading and Installing screen, then I get "Downloading 1 of 25: /AppName/" but the lower progress bar just says "Connecting". It gives up trying on the first program, then proceeds to 2 of 25, which fails in the same way. I get "Unable to download the file. This could be due to a proxy or network issue...."

I have tried running the updater with the firewall switched off - exactly the same result.

Any idea what is wrong?

Try offline installations

Looks like you have some network issues.

Advice: At least, you may (try to) download the offline installers from
here (except for online stuff like Chrome).

PortableApps Updater Problems

I have been having the same problem since a recent platform update. The only app that updates successfully using the automatic updater is LibreOffice. None of the others, including Firefox, Thunderbird, Chrome, Java, VLC, etc. will successfully download the update files and fail with a similar, "This could be due to a proxy or network issue...." message. However, I can download the files from the PortableApps site using Firefox or Chrome and install them manually one by one. I can also download the files from https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/ without any issues. I am experiencing no network problems in any other way and feel that the evidence points to a problem with the platform automatic updater.

I had an identical problem for several months in 2021 after a platform update. This eventually disappeared after another platform update in about October 2021. From then until now the updater performed correctly and consistently but has reappeared in the last few weeks after a recent platform update. See my post, "Platform Updater working since last platform update" in another thread posted on October 9, 2021.

PortableApps Updater Problems

This problem seems to have been recently resolved. I had given up using automatic updates and would manually download and install updates listed by the updater. After several recent platform updates I tried allowing it to proceed and it successfully downloaded and installed all listed updates including updates for Calibre, VLC, LibreOffice, Gimp, Thunderbird and Firefox. Although nothing related to the updater was listed in the updates log, there have been no changes on my side so whatever caused the issue is no longer present. For the record prior to successful updates in the past month or so attempts to use it no more that 8 to 10 weeks earlier all failed.

PortableApps Updater Problems

Seems that I spoke too soon in my previous post. After the latest platform update to 26.3.0 the automatic updater failed to connect and download updates to Thunderbird and VLC.
