[Closed] LibreOffice doesn't launch after update

Portableapps platform suggested to update LibreOffice, so I did. Now LibreOffice doesn't launch. It displays the splash screen briefly but nothing happens after that. I'm on Windows 10 desktop. I don't remember which version was the previous LibreOffice, and I don't know which version is the current. Any tips?

Update, Clean Install

First, try updating to LibreOffice Portable 7.5.3 which was just released. If that doesn't work and you don't mind losing your settings, try uninstalling and reinstalling via the PA.c Platform. If you'd like to preserve your settings, try downloading in the browser from our site and manually install it to your Desktop directory or similar as a clean install to see if it's an issue with your settings or extensions.

Thanks. Well, this is strange

Thanks. Well, this is strange. I updated LibreOffice Portable with PortableApps platform. It doesn't launch. So, I shut down PortableApps platform and then downloaded LibreOffice Portable to desktop and tried to launch it. It worked well!

So I did a little experiment: at the folder "PortableApps.com Platform\PortableApps" I renamed LibreOfficePortable folder to something else and then moved the new LibreOfficePortable folder to that path. Tried to lauch, it didn't work. Remember, the PortableApps platform is still shut down. So I moved the folder back to desktop, tried to launch and yes, it works.

Interesting... Okay, so, I renamed LibreOfficePortable folder in "PortableApps.com Platform\PortableApps" back to its original form, from that "something else". Tried to launch. No luck. Then I copied the folder to desktop\test folder, tried to launch, and it works. Shock

So... If the folder LibreOfficePortable is under "PortableApps.com Platform\PortableApps", it doesn't work. No matter if it's downloaded with PortableApps platform or downloaded individually from this site. It doesn't work, even if PortableApps platform is not running.

Path Too Long or Non-ASCII character

Based on what you posted above, it sounds like your path is too long or has non-ASCII characters in it. Placing your whole PortableApps install within a PortableApps.com Platform folder and likely folders above that will definitely exceed the path length limit. This is an issue internally within LibreOffice itself and sometimes with the Windows path limit which is about 256 characters by default. Internally, some files within LibreOffice Portable will account for over 1/2 that just on their own.

The path is:

The path is:
"C:\Users\b\Desktop\Portable\PortableApps.com Platform"

Thus, LibreOffice Portable's path is:
"C:\Users\b\Desktop\Portable\PortableApps.com Platform\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable"

Is this too long or non-ascii chars? I'm pretty sure there's no non-ascii, but I never got the 256 char path limit. Also: if this is the case, what would be your best guess, why have my LibreOffice Portable worked without problems before?

Edit:
Now I did this: using PortableApps platform, I uninstalled LibreOffice Portable, and the re-installed a fresh copy via "get more apps". It installed fine, but it still doesn't launch. I guess I'll just have to move everything one step up on the folder tree.

LibreOffice Issue

It's an internal LibreOffice issue. It can't run from a path that long. OpenOffice will have similar issues. (LibreOffice is a fork from OpenOffice) Both will vary a few characters either way between releases depending on internal file structure, which is why it worked before but not now. You're probably right on the edge of the limit. Remember, most apps are built to run and tested to run within C:\Program Files in terms of path length.

It makes sense. I've removed

It makes sense. I've removed Libreoffice from my PortableApps folder and downloaded a fresh copy to a whole another location and it works now. Included [Solved] to my original subject, not sure if that's the custom but anyway.

Thank you for the assistance!
