Firefox, Firefox Developer, and Firefox Nightly Portable editions may not work at the same time.

Hello,

I have installed the Firefox Portable edition and it is working very fine. I also downloaded the Firefox Developer Portable edition and Firefox Nightly Portable edition, but the problem is that these applications do not work at the same time. I have to close and run them one by one for them to work.

I have this alert message.

Another instance of Firefox is already running.
Please close other instance of Firefox before launching Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition.

Please help!

Thank you.

By Design, Advanced Option

Firefox is designed to have a single instance running at a time. The portable version works similarly. There is an advanced setting to allow you to run multiple instances within the FirefoxPortable.ini file. It's explained within the readme.txt within FirefoxPortable\Other\Source which is linked to from help.html within the FirefoxPortable directory. This will cause some side effects and non-personal files left behind.

Thank you for the update.

Thank you for the update.

I have edited the FirefoxPortable.ini file and set AllowMultipleInstances to true, but I am still getting the error message "Another instance of Firefox is already running."

I have tried the following:

Restarted my computer.
Clear all firefox app data.

please update!

Thank you.

Location

Please read the readme.txt file to see correct placement of the file. The included one is an example and will not work in that location as stated in the comment in the INI itself.

"Firefox is designed to have a single instance running at a time."

Not any longer.

Since Firefox version 67.0, users are able to run different Firefox installs side by side by default, including Nightly, Beta, Developer Edition, and ESR:

Doesn't Change Portable

I forgot about that. But it doesn't change the portable setup as all instances still share multiple registry keys and local paths that have to be handled by the launcher.
