Can't Safely Remove USB Drive

New user, so please excuse my ignorance...

I've got a Kingston Data Traveller II (2GB) on a Dell Inspiron 6000. OS is XP Professional SP 2.

Installed the basic suite plus some extras like Gimp and Audacity. Everything seemed to be working fine.

But, when I went to remove the drive, I clicked "safely remove" and it told me that it was unable to stop the drive at this time.

I looked in the Portable Apps menu for some way to shut the app down. There is an "x" button at the bottom of the menu, but it doesn't do anything.

Ended up having to kill the process in Windows manager before I could safely remove the drive.

Installed 1.0.1 patch, problem remains.

What am I doing wrong?

Just found update to 1.0.2
