Hello all, I am new here. I am running Portable firefox on a portable 4 gig mini hard drive (Excalibur USB model XEC4). I have downloaded the latest Portable firefox and it is great, but. My settings keep getting lost. Bookmarks, home page and options. I have reinstalled the program and it will work for awhile then for some reason the settings will be lost again. The same happens with portable Thunderbird, all my account settings vanish too. At work I am running Win 2000 pro and At home I run XP. I travel and rely on the mini drive to keep me intouch. This problem will not keep me from using Firefox but it is a problem.

I am using P start not the firefox launcher, it kept getting an error message. Sorry about the search.. I will look see what others have said.
PStart has to launch the launcher, otherwise there was no point at all, and you could've just downloaded the standard distribution.

Pstart opens the device and provides me with my menu. I down loaded the portable suite for the second time , loaded it to the root of the usb drive, as instructed and it failed to launch. error says "launcher has generated errors" Pstart provided the menu and everything works great from the getgo except firefox will not hold the settings. I have many "portable" programs that all work well. I might be missing the point here does the Launcher have anything to do with keeping the settings in firefox? "everything" works with firefox portable except saving the settings.
The launcher has EVERYTHING to do with settings. I don't know the exact breakdown, but the launcher basically allows FFP to use a profile that is on your portable drive. All of the folders are set up so that FFP can access the settings and profile data when you use the launcher.
This may sound like a silly question, but have you tried using the launcher?

several times and even from a clean load to the root of the usb drive. I get an error message that it failed to open every time. If I keep working at I might figger this thing out. I just downloaded the suite again and will reload it all when I get home.. Thanks for the reply...
Ok folks, home from work, plugged the USB in and was prepared to start from scratch and my good ole backup. For kicks I clicked on the FFport and it came right up. With All my settings.. Tells me that the Win200 system seems to have a problem reading "something" makes ya go Hmmmmmmm
