The problem with making a launcher program like the Epic Games Launcher (or Steam, GOG Galaxy, or anything similar) into a portable program is that we can make this bit of software portable easily enough, but we don't have the time (or money) to buy and download every single game that is hosted on the service (now and in the future) to then make the games portable too.
Most games will break as you move from computer to computer because you will leave registry entries and files behind (and I've personally found some issues with their cloud sync), and since the primary function of EGL as a portable app would be running those games and keeping those save games with you as you move computers, we would basically be providing unusably broken software.
Thank you for the reply!
Hey Lee, I ran into the same issue a while back. Epic Games Launcher really doesn’t let you run it directly from a flash drive it needs to be installed on a local drive because it writes a lot of temporary files and game updates that a flash drive can’t handle reliably.
What I ended up doing was installing it on my main drive, then moving some of the bigger games to another drive using Epic’s built-in options. It’s not as portable as having everything on a flash drive, but it keeps things stable and avoids errors when updating.
