Hwinfo not launching with latest Hwinfo beta

Hi, for years when hwinfo comes out with a beta I just download it from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/hwinfo/files/Windows_Beta/hwi_773_5385.zip and copy the files to the apps/hwinfo folder of the hwinfoportable folder on my flashdrive. But starting with HWiNFO v7.73-5375 Beta the Hwinfoportable.exe launcher doesn't launch the app. Nothing happens. No error, event log, process, nothing. So something changed on their end that either you have to adapt to or they have to revert. I have a forum post on the hwinfo forum too about this.

Thank you very much

Not guaranteed compatible

Our packages can only ever be considered compatible with the version of the base app that it is built for. Oftentimes other versions will be compatible too, but it is not something we guarantee, not something we test for, and not something we support. This applies to all of our apps.

For us to update anything in our HWiNFO package now would likely break things for 7.72.5355, which is the version it is meant to work with.

When 7.73.5375 or greater becomes stable only then would we make the necessary portability changes, because that is the version our release will be meant to work with.

Publisher Package

The publisher packages up HWiNFO Portable and I'd wager they made some changes from 7.72 to 7.73 that make it incompatible. I'd suggest sticking with stable. Have you tried running it directly to see if it works on your machine? If there is an error, running the EXE directly will let you see it.

I understand

I understand. That's the thing, when I run hwinfoportable.exe that was created when I installed the program from here, after adding the beta version, nothing happens. No error, or event logged. Running hwinfo64.exe directly works, but not though your portable launcher with the latest beta version. The STABLE version runs fine with your launcher.

Publisher Changes

There are changes in the beta version causing it not to work with the launcher included with the current stable. I'm working with the publisher on an updated launcher that will allow it to be portable even when run from 'unsecured' locations (outside of ProgramFiles or Windows).

HWiNFO 8.0 does not start

HWiNFO 8.0 does not start. HWiNFOPortable.exe starts App\HWiNFO\HWiNFOPortable64Shim.exe and then... both just close without starting App\HWiNFO\HWiNFO64.exe. Uninstall+Install does not help.
Windows 10. PortableApps are installed in C:\User\PortableApps\
UPDATE #1: Standalone HWiNFO64.exe 8.00 does not start and the following error message is popped up: "A referral was returned from the server." Standalone HWiNFO32.exe 8.00 launches correctly.
UPDATE #2: Standalone HWiNFO64.exe 7.72 launches correctly.

Fine Here, How Are You Running?

It works fine here. The 64-bit version is temporarily copied to Program Files and run from there. How are you running HWiNFOPortable.exe?

The error message seems to be associated with a signed admin app trying to run an unsigned app. HWiNFOPortable.exe, HWiNFOPortable64Shim.exe, and HWiNFO64.exe are all digitally signed and set to run as admin.

Re: How are you running HWiNFOPortable.exe?

Launching HWiNFO via "PortableApps.com Platform" located in the same place C:\User\PortableApps, that is in C:\User\PortableApps\PortableApps.com. Nothing unusual.
UPDATE #1: Just checked - If HWiNFO Portable is "Run as Administrator" via context menu in "PortableApps.com Platform", everything is fine. If it is run normally, HWiNFO Portable is not launched.

How Launching Platform?

How are you launching the platform? Any other EXE launching it? Anything trying to lower permissions or anything or containers?

Re: How Launching Platform?

If HWiNFO Portable is "Run as Administrator" via context menu in "PortableApps.com Platform", HWiNFO Portable is stared. If it is run normally, HWiNFO Portable is not launched.
"PortableApps.com Platform" is started via shortcut in User's startup folder, you know C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
UPDATE: Once HWiNFO portable is "Run as Administrator" in Platform and it is launched, the issue goes away. Now HWiNFO portable is launched via normal click in Platform w/o context menu. Moreover, now standalone portable HWiNFO 8.0 is also started.

Also Fine Here

I can launch it from my PortableApps.com Platform without needing to right click and select Run As Admin. The app then prompts for admin rights immediately and then runs without issue. HWiNFO Portable 8.0 running under Windows 10 64-bit. Sounds like something is up on your system with asking for admin rights. Do other admin rights apps run for you?
