Legacy Firefox portable to run Java portable only not the local installed Java on OS

Hi All,

Sorry to bring up legacy apps but I am trying to configure legacy portable versions of Firefox v3.6.28, v10, v20, v30 to run on portable version of Java - this is due to the URL/App being access only support Java 6/7 BUT on the Windows OS there is local install of Java 8 that the URL/App will not support.

Following this post which https://portableapps.com/node/21946 from the guide provided from user Kulmegil

I have tried to setup portable versions of Firefox v3.6.28, v10, v20, v30 to run with Java 6 JRE update 22, I can get the portable version of Firefox to see the addon for Jave 6 update 22 but it also picks up the Java 8 installed locally on the OSS, I believe this is due to portable Firefox scanning Windows Registrys (correct me if I am wrong) so when I try and launch the app it automatically loads Java 8 JRE plugin.

When I try and disable the plugin for Java 8 JRE in portable versions of Firefox v10, v20, v30 this automatically disables the Java 6 JRE addon also and stop the Java plugin from function so when I re-enable the Java 6 plugin only this automatically enabled the Java 8 plugin which instantly loads Java 8 JRE instead of Java 6 JRE.

When trying with Firefox portable version 3.6.28 (following the guide provide from user Kulmegil) I am able to disable the plugin for Java 8 JRE and only have portable Java 6 plugin enabled but when I try and load the Java app it doesn't load up in the pop Windows or get any Java prompts or error messages.

Is there a method force Firefox Portable to use Java portable only and to ignore or block it from seeing the local installs of Java on the OS?

Any help is much appreciated on this guys.

Scanning

You might be able to disable scanning in other directories by using one of the old settings discussed here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin_scanning

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Litte Progress

Hi John,

After posting the issue I found this:

https://superuser.com/questions/717968/how-to-run-two-browsers-firefox-w...

Which a user stated "Set "plugin.scan.plid.all" to "false" in your portable firefox. This will prevent firefox from using the "MozillaPlugins" registry entry."

This is now done and the browser only see the portable version of Java BUT when I try and load the Java app on any version of the Portable Firefox I get a warning about updating my out of date Java I choose ignore and after 10 seconds the Firefox portable crashes - there are no warnings or error or even Java console opening up.

Any ideas as to why Firefox portable is crashing?
