Hello and Good Morning,
The last three times I tried to update Microsoft Safety Scanner I get the following error.
---
Unable to download the file. This could be due to a proxy or
network issue or the hosting server not permitting downloads from
your location. File:
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=212733
---
Now, I was able to go the Microsoft Safety Scanner Download webpage,
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-endpoint/safety-scanner-download
and use the same link on that page
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=212733
to download the 32-bit version.
Then I downloaded the 64-bit version from
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=212732.
NOTE: Both the 32-bit and 64-bit files are named MSERT.exe
So, I renamed the 64-bit file to MSERT64.exe and copied both files
to this directory. drive:\PortableApps\mssPortable\App\mss
---
I don't know why I get the error using the PortableApps updater.
Like I said above, this has just started happening.
Oh!
Before I forget, my system is Windows 7 64-bit.
If you need more information, let me know.
Thank you, Dan
Looks like Microsoft may be blocking connections using the Windows internet components from Windows 7/8 to those downloads. It fails for me on 7/8, even after updating the root and intermediate certificates to those used on Windows 10. It works fine on Windows 10/11.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Hello John,
Thank you for checking this out.
Your reply, though technical (to me), makes sense.
Sounds like something Microsoft might do.
I will continue doing this update manually then.
Enjoy the rest of your day, Dan
