Runs great under Wine .... but

doesn't start apps.

How about checking OS and use Wine to launch apps if needed?

I am now using everything on XP, Vista, and Ubuntu. Plus I have Ubuntu able to run live (and somewhat slower) from my USB drive if I am on a Windows machine. Don't get me wrong, most of my work is still in Windows, but Ubuntu/Wine seems to run everything well, which I manually locate and right click and choose open with Wime. Since these are also open source, free (portable) apps they would seem to be a good match with portableapps.

Aloha,

Rich

(Sorry no smart-ass jokes this time.)

Works Fine

It works fine on an up to date Ubuntu instance with Wine installed and associated with EXE files. The menu starts the apps just as it always does. If it's not working on your machine, it's something with your configuration... and it's nothing that I can assist you with.

John.

Are you using Ubuntu 7.04 since you say you'te using an up-to-date instance?

If so, is it on it's own machine, or a Virtual Machine? Cause I can't get it to work in a Virtual Machine because of a mouse recognition issue.

Machine

It's installed on my laptop, which is a quadboot box for testing. I test individual apps when doing upgrades in a virtual machine (Innotek's Virtual Box at the moment), but I test the menu, major revisions, etc on a standalone install on a real machine... since that is how people will actually utilize it.

If you can't get your mouse issues sorted out, then it's not a good environment for testing.

Well.

I installed Ubuntu 7.04 on Innotek's Virtual Box, and the mouse works fine now, but I don't know what to do with the add-ons, because I need the Guest Additions in order to use a USB drive with Ubuntu, and it would be nice if the sound worked to, but I clicked to install them, and when Ubuntu booted up "VBOXADDITIONS" a C.D. rom drive, was on my desktop, I tried to click VBoxLinuxAddtions.run, but Gedit doesn't know the coding. And neither do I, I think I tried all the .iso coding's, and none work, and the executables don't work either, so I think I need to use the run one, which Gedit doesn't know the coding of, do you have a solution?

Thanks in advance.

Innotek

Ask over at Innotek's site for anything around that as it's very offtopic here, especially in this thread (this isn't a Wine issue at all, it's an issue with a virtual machine running an OS on your computer).

Like I said, it is only recommended to mess with a virtual machine for testing. It's pretty silly to run something like PortableApps.com within a virtual machine... especially when you can run it directly on your PC's OS already... much faster and more reliably.

Okay.

Sorry about that.

Sorry still in my first few days with Ubuntu ....

probably a file association issue.

Which is great and will be an easy fix.

As noted in a previous post, I can sometimes be an idiot.

Thanks John!
