Not on these forums really so please excuse if I'm posting in the wrong area. But wanted to submit a 'bug' or usability item and didn't see another way to do this.
TreeSize Portable changed their licensing model at version 4.7.3 to disallow it running on server OS's. version 4.7.2 is still free for server. That being said there should be two different packages of the application 'TreeSize' and 'TreeSize for server' or something to that effect as otherwise the user is prompted to update from 4.7.2 -> 4.7.3 each time for application updates which will break the application (application refuses to run on server OS).
As a workaround you can just rename the app's folder from "TreeSize Portable" to anything else (eg. "TreeSize Portable 4.7.2" so you know what version it is stuck on) to prevent it from being detected as needing an update by the Platform.
This was already known and indicated on the app's homepage with a link to download the old 4.7.2 installer. As some folks may not know about moving things around and renaming directories to prevent updates, I've repacked it as a separate download now that will go into another directory. https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/treesize-free-portable#download_...
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for this. Yes I knew about changing directories and modifying doing custom installs but since I use portableapps on several instances (mainly vm's) it's just a big hassle to maintain that when it could much more easily be solved by having the right packaging at the head-end which is the primary reason why I posted. (why have 100's/1000's of people re-doing the same work when you can have it done once at the right place).
Thanks for the update link, that's a helpful start. What does it take to get it listed in the portable apps directory (so it can be found and selected in the platform). Yes, people should go to the website and read and select the paf file. Though in the 5+ decades of doing this 'common sense isn't so common'.
